Hello Darlings,
I wanted to let you know that I came back from this fab estate sale today. I drove and drove just to get there. Ohh boy am I sure glad I did! Floor to ceiling, room to room and then some was a lovely rambler with mid century EVERYTHING! My heart fluttered darling and I think I might have been shaking. No wait, that was the extremly heavy boomerang lamp I was holding. So I walked around, peering into each room, scouting you might say. Checking prices, doing the math and comparing. My brain was working like a mini computer, diagnosing rips, tears and stains on items from the past.
I came across a rather lovely nice and helpful lady. She seemed to be running a one lady show with a grunt man by the name of Frank. Both were very helpful as I brought up items with no prices, pulled down dishes from top shelves and dusted off piles of magazines. ” I’ll take the lot! “. That came out of my mouth a lot this morning it seemed.
When all was said and done my pile of treasures was growing and had grown so large it was now in its own area! Ohh goodness me. ” Lets get a running tally shall we?” I say to the helpful lady. She gives me a total and I find I am $15.00 under budget. Perfect! I head back downstairs for more vintage magazines and do a once over slowly this time.
I get to the end of the show and the end of my budget. I am a little pooped out, packed to the brim and excited to go home and play with all of my new vintage
It has been a swell day for ForTheBettys and the little shop. I cannot wait to get these in and out there for everyone else to see. In my excitement I took a couple quick pictures and posted them to my facebook page. You can see some of the items there.

Hello Darlings,
Having a fat day over here as well as un upset tummy day ~ so what better thing to do than relax on the couch with a good blog! So, what is on this mind of mine today you might be wondering? No, well I’m going to tell you anyway, this IS why you are here
Just kidding darling, ok. Vintage, vintage in general but today, right here and now I am talking about vintage clothing. I will use my apron I am wearing right now for example. I put on this lovely delish full apron with a great print and oh so crisp. I tie it from front to back, clasp the back shut and whala! Ooops, forgot to finish my war paint. Don’t want to scare the mail man
(makeup). So I tootle to the bathroom, throw on some cover up under those dreadful dead eye. A little red on the lips goes a long way just like the black eye liner I am grabbing for. Ooops, dropped a puff ball! I bend over ( yes the wrong way ) and I hear rrrriiiiiiiiiiiip. I bat my eyes like someone just put a gun to my back, stand up as strait as possible and check the mirror. Where is it. where did that come from???
Like I said earlier darling, I wear vintage EVERYTHING!
Ohhh no.. as I check my (self) reflection in the mirror I can see the faintest torn fabric on my pretty apron. The front darts to excentuate the bustline ( yes I told you it was fab) has split where the ties start in the front. It may be fixable however it is fabric that has been strethced and given way. That bend over was the camel that broke the aprons back. It could have happened in the kitchen over cookies and pies, but no, it happened over eye liner and powder puffs.
So what I am trying to say ladies and my gentleman readers is if you wear vintage there is a chance something so suttle that you do could do damage to it. Yes we love these pieces, yes we do our best to take care of them however some of us arnt even as old as they are! I hate to see sellers online with negative feedback because someone has purchased a lovely vintage dress/shoes/hat/purse and something just the same as my apron happens and they take it out on the seller. Please be kind, it is not their fault. It is also not your fault either. All we can do is love our vintage gently and take care of it until its last days.
On that note I still have my apron on! If I feel better later this afternoon I am going to attempt a Banana Chocolate Chip Bread for the man of the house. He loves taking them to work for his snack times
Cheers Darlings!!

Have you seen this before? I would love to see the grill that this darling little machine attached to. This little Kenmore delight is for your mid century gas grill. there are hooks that you slide this on, the hole in the back is for your rotisserie rod. Plug this baby in , turn the knob and away she goes! Items made back then really were meant to last and this is a true test of time.
If you have any information on this little darling I would love to hear from you !!
You can see this working online at

I love estate sales don’t you? If you have never had the pleasure you should check one out. Some people find them a little unnerving and others like myself dive right in! I love the possibilities of what you will find. The treasures from yesteryears. I wanted to post the latest find on here for you to see. This lovely white wedding dress has seen a couple weddings in its days. The dress is from the mid 1950′s however it has had some alterations and updates from what I can tell. There looks as though there are three hooks in the back where a train was to be attached but that is no longer. Instead there is an added large white bow that covers the back waist. This looks like it was added because the bride was not able to zip the dress all the way. The veil that is pictured with it does not look to be the original, it has a 1980′s style, possibly late 1970′s. There is also an extra small petticoat underneath that I have not pictured yet. With a little cleaning this dress would be ready for the next event!!! I have not yet posted this in the shop as I still have some more pictures to take and a little more looking to go over but I wanted you to see it. Isn’t it just devine?!?!?!

Hello Dears,
Today I am doing inventory on my little shop. Hmm.. maybe I should be a bit more honest. Today I am suppose to be doing inventory on my shop however I have had a couple road blocks, lost my coffee a couple times and shipped out an item while dealing with a cranky printer. Whew! All of this before noon. So, here I am , sitting infront of my computer when I should be playing (working) and doing inventory in the shop.
I really don’t know where to start. There are clothes, Pyrex, shoes, this that and the other things and well everything else inbetween. As a non-admitting OCD freak about organization I sometimes find it hard to start. Soo many things infront where to begin? I will need to clear out my shop ( my laundry room ) and bring it into the kitchen and dinning area. I also believe there are items around my house ( cuurently in use) that should also be in the shop. tee hee.
What do YOU do when there is a daunting task like this? Do you freak out? Do you start by colors, size, shapes or do you just dig in? I really do need to get this done (tax reasons) but just cant seem to get past the little things.
Well, what else is going on? Oh yes, new tires on the truck today!!! They look fantastic and beefy and I have only been talking about getting them for the last month and a half. Ahhh to have that done feels so nice. lol Procrastinator? Noooooo. hahaha
Speaking earlier of losing my coffee I seem to have done it again. As I look to the left of me there is coaster however it is missing its buddy- the coffee cup. That cup was hot and steamy with a delish concotion of dark coffee, half and half with a splash of egg nog. Hmm, must go find it!
Ok Darlings, wish me luck! It’s going to look like a hurricane has come through this little retro rambler but it must be done! Please please tell me how you do it though!
ForTheBettys
Up very early again this morning. This whole day light savings time has messed with me way too much. However I am a positive type of person who always trys to look on the sunny side of things. So here it goes. I can get laundry done before the kid wakes ups. I can do the dishes, take a shower. Ohh yes, plenty of things to do!
So I was busy in my shop yesterday. I posted quite a few of the Better Homes and Gardens Cook books and then it came to me.. maybe I should have bulked them together as a set? Hmm… well, that person that may want them as a set…. ask me. just ask me and I will grant your wish.
So what is on my agenda for the day? I need to get out of my little retro rambler. Being unemployed can be fantastic when it comes to laundry however it wreakes havoc on my brain and sanity. Today I shall go window shopping for christmas gifts and send out a book that sold from the shop overnight.
What do you have plans for today? Are you at work? Did you call in sick? lol ( I wont tell ) .
Whatever your plans are today have a great one!
Are you getting ready? Have you seen the greens and reds starting to show up in the stores lately? If you don’t know what I’m getting at let me tell you.. CHRISTMAS!!!!! For my American family they are all waiting to dig in for Thanksgiving in the next couple of weeks. For my Canadian family we are all starting to gear up and at least think of the shopping, the desserts and the wrappings with trim. Christmas is such a wonderful time of year. People seem to smile more, have a little bounce in their step and everything else that goes along with the jolly season.
So with all this being said.. what is on your list this year? Do you have one of those ” have no idea what to get him” type of a man? How about the guy that gets everything he wants every year but you want to shake it up a bit.
Let me know! I love to shop for other people and always seem to have ideas for others but never myself. (isnt that the way it always is?) Try our shop for some fantastic vintage decorations http://www.etsy.com/listing/32275163/12-vintage-shiny-brite-green-glass or how about some vintage cook books for any type of eaterhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/forthebettys?section_id=7423806
ForTheBettys is ready to take on Christmas~ Wrapping paper and tape in hand!
Happy Holidays!
ForTheBettys
ps. have you been nauty or nice?
OK Darlings,
I thought I would let you know what is going on in our little retro rambler lately. We have banana bread in the oven and dinner is prepping in the sink. It has been a busy fall here lately. Items coming and slowly going out of the shop. They seem to be coming in a lot faster than they are going. haha but that is alright too because I love them all. Don’t forget, I don’t buy anything for my shop that I personally don’t love. If I don’t love it and have to have it it does not come home with me.
That said, lately I have been on this Better Homes and Gardens kick. No I am not talking about the new books or magazines ( that really isn’t my style) however the ones from the 1950′s. I picked up the Junior Cook Book along with Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) flower arrangement, handy mans book and the redecorating from 1953. Some others that have come in most recently have been the smaller hard backs from the 1960′s. Come now, I know what you are thinking. ” She doesn’t do the 1960′s”. Oh how right you are! However, these cook books are timeless and have so many wonderful ideas. SO! If you are looking for some great retro meals, something with a little flair, little out of the ordinary ( in todays standards) then pop into the shop. We now have a Vintage Book Section!
Well my dears that is all I can tell you for today. You see I am just minutes away from my banana bread coming out of the oven and turning dinner over to go in. After that it is off to the grocery store to pick up dessert all before the timmer goes on the oven. Thank Goodness the Man of the House is here to keep an eye on it
www.forthebettys.etsy.com is where you will find the Vintage Book Section & Don’t forget to save the address to check back and browse the Better Homes and Gardens books that will be coming to the shop very very soon
We love it when you stop by!
